Classroom Rules In our classroom, these are the rules that all students are expected to follow:
Be Respectful
Be Kind
Do Your Best
Homework Policies This year, the only homework that students will be expected to complete are 30 minutes of reading each night that they will then record on their Monthly Reading Calendar.
It is my firm belief that if students have worked the entire time they are in class, they should be able to enjoy their evenings with family time, extracurricular activities, and an opportunity to relax and be ready for the next day of learning. If a student does not complete an assignment during the school day, the assignment will be sent home to be completed within ONE WEEK. Though traditional homework assignments will not be given, there will still be academics that children can focus on at home. See the “What Can My Student Do At Home?” page on this site OR check out the paper version in your child's Take-Home Folder. I highly recommend that students pick a few of these activities do work on throughout the week at home.
Gradebook Expectations Students and parents are expected to check Gradebook to see their grades EACH WEEK.
Missing Work: If students are missing work, they will receive a Missing Work Report each Monday to put into their Take-Home Folder. They can work on their missing work when the are done early with assignments in class, during recesses when I don’t have recess duty, and/or at home.
Absent Students: If students are absent, they will receive a list of their missing work upon their return to school. Students will then have ONE week, from the date written on their missing work list, to get all the work completed and turned in.
Attendance In our classroom, learning is a student’s most important job and, in order to get the best education possible, students must be at school. Due to this, please make sure to avoid extended vacations that require students to miss school, to schedule doctor and dental appointments before or after school, and to organize any extracurricular events to take place outside school hours. The lessons that students miss build upon each other and are experiences that can’t be made up in missing work packets, even if students are only missing fifteen minutes of the school day.
If you are unable to avoid your child missing school, please make sure to communicate with me and the school office, so that absences are excused and work can be picked up. School policy states that teachers may not provide missed work in advance; however, all missing work will be ready for your child upon their return to school.
With that being said, though, please make sure to keep sick kids home.
Chromebook Expectations At the beginning of the school year, students and parents will be signing a Chromebook contract that goes over the rules and expectations of using a laptop in the classroom. As long as each student follows the rules and expectations outlined in the contract, they will be able to use their laptop on a daily basis. However, if a student misuses their laptop in anyway, the following consequences will occur:
1st Consequence:The student will receive a verbal warning from the teacher after the first occurrence.
2nd Consequence:The student will be required to fill out a “Fix It” ticket about what they did wrong and how they plan on correcting their behavior.
3rd Consequence:The student will receive an email home and will be put on a contract.
4th Consequence:The student will lose their laptop for an amount determined by a discussion with the teacher, the student, and their parents.
Please help your student follow the rules of the contract by going over it carefully and reminding them of it throughout the year.
Eating to Succeed Healthy eating habits helps fuel student’s brains and body for a full day of learning. Please help encourage your child to eat a healthy and fulfilling breakfast before school each morning. The energy they get from eating breakfast will need to last them until we go to lunch at 12:15. For lunch, please consult with your child on the hot lunch menu or help them pack a healthy lunch from home. Students will have plenty of time to eat a good lunch that will give them the energy they need to learn until it is time to go home at 3:45.
Along with eating a healthy breakfast and lunch, each child is encourage to bring a water bottle to school every day. This will help keep students hydrated through our rigorous days of learning.
Birthdays Birthdays are a wonderful thing to celebrate in the classroom! If your child would like to celebrate their birthday by bringing in a class treat, please make sure to contact me at least a day or two in advance, so that I can plan accordingly. We will be celebrating all birthdays at the end of the day (3:30 - 3:45 p.m.).
If your child is bringing in a treat, please remember that all food needs to be store bought and nut-free. Healthy foods or non-foods items are great as well and highly encouraged.
